As educators of some of our nation's youngest and most impressionable learners, kindergarten teachers face a unique set of issues and challenges. Chief among them is instruction. Every day, kindergarten teachers across the country must address a myriad of questions about this most fundamental facet of early childhood education:

• What topics and practices are vital to a successful program?
• Which materials and instructional practices are developmentally appropriate?
• How do I incorporate instruction into my half-day sessions? Full-day sessions?
• What does the current research reveal about kindergarten instruction?

• Provide classroom resources for use during classroom kindergarten instruction and activities.
• Introduce kindergarten teachers to current research in kindergarten instruction.
• Develop and disseminate publications (books, newsletters, magazines) to enhance professional staff development among kindergarten teachers.
